2023 Anjiro Initiative Fundraiser raises over $36K for education
This year was Anjiro Initiative’s 10th year fundraising for students in Anjiro. The annual fundraising campaign ran from August 7-21, 2023 and raised $36,005, which enabled Anjiro Initiative to support 948 students with more than 50 percent of scholarships supporting girls and young women.
This August, the Madagascar Country Team worked with school principals in five Anjiro primary, middle, and secondary schools, collecting student information during a newly established Open Application period from July 31 to August 4, 2023. During this time 1,743 student names were submitted to the program, and we are pleased to announce that the Anjiro Program will be supporting 863 students this 2023-24 school year with 50 percent of the scholarships supporting girls. This year’s program demonstrates a 345 percent growth over last year’s support for 250 students at the primary, middle, and secondary school levels.
For its University Program, Anjiro Initiative is pleased to also announce that it will be supporting 85 university students with education grants this 2023-24 school year with 58 percent of the scholarships supporting girls. This year’s University Program demonstrates a 607 percent growth in students over the 2022-23 cohort of 14 students.
“This is our 10th year hosting the fundraiser, and we continue to exceed our goals and increase support to students and families in Anjiro,” said Clifford Duong, Founder and President. “With the continued generosity of our donors, we anticipate growing our program and partnerships in 2024 as we plan expansion to other regions in Madagascar.”
The 2023 fundraiser was held online primarily through the platform GoFundMe. While there is one annual campaign to generate funds for the upcoming school year, donations are accepted year-round and fully tax deductible for US residents.
